UFC villain choked out after wardrobe malfunction

Image
Trend News To Day in Google - UFC’s Angela Magana burst out of her top during her defeat by Amanda Cooper at UFC 218. Cooper was in full control and attacking Magana’s chest from a sitting position. But as they fought, Magana’s sports bra was readjusted and UFC 218 viewers were given an eyeful. Fans will not be able to see the incident on replays as the UFC has removed 15 seconds of actual fight time from Round 1. Referee Keith Peterson stopped the bout to allow Magana to cover her modesty, but she ultimately failed to impose herself in the fight and suffered a second-round TKO. “I had an incredible time in #Detroit. Amanda was better & stronger lastnight. Congrats #ufc218 #ufc,” Magana wrote on Twitter. “As for me I absolutely can’t wait to get back to training & get another fight. Fighting is a process I learned so much in this journey for #ufc218. I watched my fight, happy w the challenge my stand up improved and now to work on improving more #mma #ufc.” ...

YMCA thanks Burton Albion Football Club as £31,000 is raised by sleep-out to help homeless

Image
Trend News To Day in Google - YMCA bosses in Burton are celebrating as the fund-raising total from its sleep-out event hit an impressive £31,000 - and that figure could still rise further. This time was a record-breaking year for the YMCA event, with a total of 188 people sleeping rough at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton or at the graveyard at St Modwen's Church, in the town's Market Place. The event aims to raise awareness and money to help the homeless. The sleep-out saw 173 people braving a night outside sleeping in the cold, either in the stone tunnels of at the home of the Brewers at the Pirelli or 11 people who slept in the graveyard. The event took place on Saturday, November 11, with the graveyard being the 'extreme' option as it was truly open to all the elements. This is the sixth year that the sleep-out has taken place at the Pirelli Stadium, with Brewers bosses allowing the venue to be used by the charity free of charge each year, to ensure that as ...

Battle of the Sexes review: Game, set and match

Image
Trend News To Day in Google  -  When the urge to see his eyes glaze over overwhelms me, I bore my 20-year-old son with a lecture about mainstream attitudes towards women and gay people in the 1970s that beggar his generation’s belief. The next time that urge strikes I will tie him to the sofa and make him watch Battle of the Sexes for a more entertaining tutorial than this dullard could possibly provide. Its subject is one of the most curious, farcical and significant events in sporting history. In September 1973 a loudly, proudly sexist middle-aged braggart took on the world’s best female tennis player in Houston, Texas. On the line, along with the colossal winner-takes-all purse of $100,000, was the assumed superiority of the male sex. Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell), who had won the US Open three decades earlier, was a gambling-addicted, emasculated husband of a rich wife. Billie Jean King (Emma Stone), who had won the US Open the previous year, led the women in more t...

Nine-man Club America holds Cruz Azul, Monterrey downs Atlas

Image
Trend News To Day in Google  - Cruz Azul could only manage a 0-0 draw in Estadio Azul against Mexico City rival Club America on Thursday in the 2017 Apertura quarterfinal, despite Las Aguilas finishing the game with nine players. Club America's Mateus Uribe was shown a straight red after half an hour, with Edson Alvarez given his second yellow in the 90th minute, while Cruz Azul goalkeeper Jesus Corona saved a penalty from Mexico teammate Oribe Peralta in the 36th. Cruz Azul started the brighter side and was pushing for an opener in an end-to-end game, before Uribe was sent off for a high tackle on Julio Dominguez. America's Mateus Uribe receives a red card for his challenge on Cruz Azul defender Julio Dominguez. The red card actually seemed to improve America, who went close close in the 36th minute through a Pablo Aguilar effort from close range. Aguilar won a penalty seconds later when Dominguez was adjudged to have dragged him down, but goalkeeper Cor...

Tiger Mania: The media hype, fans' hope in the run-up to Tiger Woods' latest comeback

Image
Trend News To Day in Google  -  Tiger Mania apparently has more legs than Woods’ 2-iron stingers at Hoylake, rolling on and on, as it does, unimpeded, notwithstanding an occasional hiatus. So here we are, 21 years after a Sports Illustrated headline dubbed Woods “The Chosen One,” his return to competitive golf in the Hero World Challenge next week in the Bahamas seems to be heralded as a potential second coming. Again. The media, social and traditional, is complicit in this, of course. Understandably. As P.T. Barnum said, “Without promotion, something terrible happens …nothing.” Christian Petersen, Tiger Woods at the Hero World Challenge in 2016. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images) Hence, Golf Channel’s Tiger Tracker, who Tweets every hole of every round that Woods plays, used his entire expanded allotment of 280 characters to herald Tiger’s return with this: P.T. Barnum, incidentally, was not invoked as a metaphor for the circus surrounding ...

Moeen Ali: I want people to think Muslims are not all bad

Image
Trend News To Day in Google  - The 30-year-old will be a key player for England in Australia but no matter the result he'll still be an icon among British Asians. And the Muslim all-rounder from Birmingham says he wants to use his position to inspire people of all faiths. "I want people to look at me and be like, 'Muslims are not all bad people.'" In a Newsbeat and Asian Network documentary, Moeen openly talks about life as a Muslim playing cricket for England at a time when his religion's come under scrutiny. The 30-year-old's beliefs means you won't see him engaging with alcohol - so spraying champagne after an England victory is a no-go. "There's so much negativity about it in people's minds with the media etc. "I'm hoping I can inspire people of different faiths to make them know that they don't have to be afraid of practising whatever they want to. "And to be a cricket player or sports player or whatever the...

Golding Supercars promotion confirmed

Image
Trend News To Day in Google  - James Golding will step up to the Supercars main game full time next season, having been confirmed alongside Garth Tander at Garry Rogers Motorsport. Golding's promotion comes as little surprise, the GRM protege having been heavily tipped to take over the second seat at the Melbourne-based squad after narrowly missing out on a drive this year when Tander joined the team. Golding, who goes by the nickname 'Bieber' within the team, did still make his solo debut in the main game this season with a pair of Wildcard starts at Winton and Queensland Raceway, before partnering Tander at the three endurance races. He's also been working for the team as an apprentice mechanic. “I will be extremely proud to see Bieber race in Adelaide in just over three months time” said team owner Garry Rogers. “I have been watching him since his early teens in go-karts and as things progressed I offered him an apprenticeship a little over four ye...
